(few students will give an answer)

Reflection

slide 3

Jesus is our role model for peace. From his birth, and throughout his life, He lived, shared, and preached about peace.

In the nowadays world there are numerous people who with their actions are models of peace among which Muhammad Ali was a boxer and refused to serve in the US military during the Vietnam war. He was arrested, stripped of his title as a professional boxer, and fined $10,000.  Through his courageous action, he believed that peace is the only way that makes human beings stronger. People who have responsibilities and carry them out dutifully and with the right intent are all models of peace.

Activity

Slide 4

Today, like him, let us share his peace with each other by saying “peace be with you” to every person we meet today.

Students, in a very practical way, may shake hands with each other

Introduction

Every person has the right to be respected as a human being. This is why we need to be aware of the mistaken opinions we might form regarding people who are different from us in race, culture, religion, sexual orientation or political ideology.

This is the photo of Sara Asabe and Naomi Bugre, two students who in 2011 attended a Maltese government school. Sara was bullied because she wore a veil, and Naomi was treated unfairly because of her skin colour.

Sara was elected to the school council and, along with other students in the council, started to work hard to encourage equal rights and respect for people who are different.

Slide 5

This is a video of Sara speaking about how she had to struggle for her rights.

Prayer

Slide 7

Dear God, At Christmas time, we all wish for peace in the world.

Help us to bring love where there is hatred; to base our opinion of others on their character, words and actions, not on appearance.

To appreciate the good qualities of different people and celebrate the beauty of different cultures and faiths.

Help us, oh God, to treat migrants and refugees with justice and respect. Please help us to bring peace to the world, Amen.

St Nicholas College celebrates the feast day of its patron St Nicholas of Bari on the 6th of December. This prayer is a paraphrase of some verses taken from a prayer of St Nicholas:

Dear God,

Please help us to be generous like St Nicholas. To realise it is much better to give than to receive. To bring joy to others, offer them not only cards and material gifts but also our time, compassion and friendship. Protect us from shoppers’ fatigue, stress and overspending so that we will be sincere in our gifts, especially to the poor. Amen.
