On the morning of 14th September 2022, the Teresian Convent in Ta’ Xbiex played host to an enlightening assembly. Spiritual Development in Schools (SDS) kickstarted the academic year 2022-2023 with a specially curated event designed for religious counsellors and chaplains who minister in State and Independent Schools across Malta.

Getting more familiar with the Religion Syllabus

With the primary goal of facilitating a deeper understanding of the Religion Syllabus that spans Primary, Middle, and Secondary schools, the SDS team — acting in unison with the Coordinator of religious counsellors — masterfully executed the seminar. Lending her invaluable expertise to the event was Ms Antoinette Laferla, the Educational Officer of Religion. Her insights into the gradual development of the Religion curriculum over the academic phases left a profound impact. As a testament to the effectiveness of the session, religious counsellors were seen engaging actively, raising queries, and indulging in insightful discussions about various facets of the syllabus.

Initiatives and Services

However, the seminar wasn’t just restricted to the academic nitty-gritty. The second half saw Fr Reuben Gauci, the Coordinator of the religious counsellors and SDS, delving into the various initiatives set to be launched during the academic year. The attendees were introduced to the services that SDS would be rolling out, further enriching the spiritual ecosystem within the Maltese schools.

The event, while deeply informative, was also interlaced with moments of warmth and camaraderie. Post the sessions, the religious counsellors, and the team dined together, cherishing moments of fraternity and mutual appreciation.

This gathering not only highlighted the collaborative spirit that SDS fosters but also reinforced the commitment of the religious counsellors to adapt, evolve, and offer the best spiritual guidance to their students.
