COP26 is the next annual UN climate change conference. COP stands for Conference of the Parties, and the summit will be attended by the countries that signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – a treaty that came into force in 1994. The 26th COP summit will be hosted in partnership between the UK and Italy. The conference will be held in Glasgow from 1-12 November 2021.
Praying Together
Spiritual Development in Schools is encouraging individuals, schools, and entities, to join with millions of people who are praying, protesting, and working to become more conscious about climate change. As we contemplate the climate emergency, people going hungry, extreme weather events, communities being displaced and damage to creation is accelerating, it is important to keep our eyes fixed on God who is just, loves creation, and brings restoration and peace.
Prayer Spaces related to climate change
Below, there is a list of prayer spaces that you can use to pray with your students.
In this prayer space one is invited to reflect on the greedyness not only globally by mostly personally, and to ask for forgiveness for such greedy actions.
In this prayer space one is invited to think how s/he can make good use of his/her energy in the same way that ‘brother wind’ can produce pollution free energy by making good use of its power.
During this prayer space one is asked to think of what is wounding our world, and what can one do to help in the healing. One is invited to pray for the healing of the world.
Apart from praying for world leaders to be given wisdom and courage to lead fairly, this prayer space also helps one to reflect on living without food due to injustice and economic-greed.
