Welcome
Slide 1
The Head, SLT or educator leading the assembly welcomes the students by saying good morning. One can start the assembly with the sign of the cross or a minute in silence.
Introduction
Slide 2
On Valentine’s Day, many people around the world buy cards and gifts for the people they love and care for.
Unfortunately, the word ‘LOVE’ is often overused and we often lose its true meaning. Is love just a feeling or emotion? Can we love the people we don’t like or even our enemies? Can love last forever?
Reflective thought
Slide 3
Love is often mistaken for a strong feeling or emotion. This is erotic love which is just a temporary chemistry reaction in our body that changes quickly. True love, however, is based on a responsible and faithful commitment towards another person, even if this person is not loving towards us.
Slide 4
True love is when you are willing to help and give joy to others even when they cannot love you back or when you have to struggle or suffer. When we love this way, we do not look for a reward but commit to loving those most in need and even those who do not or cannot love us back.
There are many people who have given us a good example of heroic love. Christians believe in Jesus, who teaches us that there is no greater love than to offer your life for those you love. When we experience God’s love in our life, we will love others as God loves us.
Prayer
Dear God,
St Valentine was a saint who sacrificed his life to help others. Help us care for one another at school today, be kind and patient with each other, and be sensitive to the needs of the people around me, especially those who are lonely or in need of my help. Help us to give love and joy to everyone we meet today. Amen.
