Welcome

The Head, SLT, or educator who is administering the assembly welcomes the students by saying good morning. One can start the assembly with the sign of the cross or a minute in silence.

Reflection

Show a big heart template to the students.

A heart is the representation of love. Love and peace are best friends, we cannot separate them. When we love, we are being at peace because we are caring. Love feels also when we sing and dance. Let us dance and play together:

Song

Game

Children learn a sign that means ‘I Love’ by making their across each other on their chests and closing their fingers.

Dear God,  help me to learn to love. Amen.

Show a large heart template to the students.

A heart is often used as a representation of love as the heart supplies blood to the body and this blood, that is love, allows us to live happily. Love supplies us with the energy to do what we want and what we can.

Game – Love Actions

A small number of students take turns coming up with creating ways to show love. Ex. offering a drink, shaking hands and saying: “how are you today?”.

Dance

Prayer

Dear God, let there be peace among us and everywhere. Amen.

Introduction

On Valentine’s Day, many people worldwide buy cards and gifts for the people they love and care for.

However, the ‘LOVE’ essential for peace is often overused but often loses its true meaning. We must ask important questions. Is love just a feeling or emotion? Can love last forever? Can we love the people we don’t like or even our enemies?

Reflective thought

Love is often mistaken for a strong feeling or emotion called erotic love, which is just a chemical reaction in our body that changes very quickly.

True love is based on a responsible and faithful commitment toward another person. It is a decision, an act of the will. True love is when you are willing to help and give joy to others even when they cannot love you back or when you have to struggle or suffer. When we love this way, we do not look for a reward but commit to loving those most in need and even those who do not or cannot love us back.

There are many people who have given us a good example of heroic love. Christians believe in Jesus, who teaches us that there is no greater love than to offer your life for those you love. When we experience God’s love in our life, we will love others as God loves us.

Let us watch this video clip about true love.

Prayer

Dear God,

St Valentine was a saint who sacrificed his life to help others. Help us care for one another at school today, be kind and patient with each other, and be sensitive to the needs of the people around me, especially those who are lonely or in need of my help. Help us to give love and joy to everyone we meet today. Amen.
