Who needs a Prayer Spaces Kit?
The Prayer Spaces Kit by SDS is designed for educators who want to start animating prayer activities for their students.
What is a Prayer Space?
A Prayer Space consists of reflective and prayer activities tailored for children and young people of all faiths and none to explore life’s questions, spirituality and faith in a safe, creative and interactive way.
Which prayer activities are included?
A Prayer Space would include a selection of prayer activities that represent different areas of the spiritual life, not least as they are experienced and expressed in the lives of children and young people. This kit’s three selected prayer activities are Let There Be Peace, Prayer Wall and Saying Sorry.
 Let There Be PeaceOn the second Sunday of Advent, this prayer space helps one to reflect on peace and to pray for those people with whom one is not in harmony at this moment. |
 Prayer WallIn this prayer space one is encouraged to be one of the builders of a wall of faith by writing and sticking his prayer onto the wall. |
 Saying Sorry – CrossThis Prayer Space encourages one to think about being sorry for an action against God or those around us. |
How am I going to make the best out of these prayer activities?
You can download this starter kit or order the kit box for free by filling out the form at the end of the page. Below, you should find an instruction card, templates, and other resources for each prayer activity.
Saying Sorry
Aim: This Prayer Space encourages people to consider being sorry for actions they take against God or those around them.
Resources: 1 Instruction Card
Other Resources needed: large cross, papers / sticky notes, pens, pencils, crayons
Setting-up:
- Place the Instruction Card, post-it notes and pens on the table or on the floor.
- Attach a post-it note with a prayer as an example on the cross.
Let There Be Peace
Aim: This Advent prayer activity helps students reflect on peace and pray for those people with whom one is not in harmony now.
Resources: 1 Instruction Card; Angel templates (printables); Angel templates (readily cut).
Other resources needed: a table, cloth, pens or papers, string, and staples.
Setting-up:
- Find a quiet corner in the corridor or another public area in the school and set up this prayer activity, perhaps near a Christmas Tree or a Nativity Scene.
- Use a table and cover it with a plain but colourful tablecloth. For example, decorate the table or area with fairy lights or battery candles. Place the Instruction Card, readily cut Angel templates, and pens on the table.
- Include an area or place where the angels are meant to be hung – either attached to a background wall with a blue tag, a string with staples, or a Christmas Tree, for example. Attach one angel with a prayer as an example.
Prayer Wall
Aim: In this prayer space, one is encouraged to be one of the builders of a wall of faith by writing and sticking his prayer onto the wall.
Resources: 1 Instruction Card; 4 brick wall templates (printables); Post-it notes.
Other resources needed: a table, cloth, pens or paper.
Setting-up:
- Place the Instruction Card, post-it notes and pens on the table.
- Set up the brick wall templates on the wall (or cardboard can lean on the wall) to form a unity where post-it notes can be attached.
- Attach a post-it note with a prayer as an example.
Finally
Allow all students to use the prayer activities as freely as possible and intervene only when necessary to guide them before, during, or after use.
