The head, SLT or educator who is administering the assembly welcomes the students by saying good morning. One can start the assembly with the sign of the cross or a minute in silence.

Let us now think of a member of the family who has died, and we will pray for them.
Prayer
Glorious God in heaven, I hope and pray that the person or persons whom I thought of are happy in your presence forever. Amen.

This feast has its origins in ancient times in Europe and around the world. In ancient Rome, citizens would crowd into streets to celebrate the triumph of their troops. The winning general would stand in front of the crowd, the most desired place at the time. During this celebration, from time to time, a slave used to whisper in the triumphant general’s ear: “Remember, thou art mortal.” This is a reminder for the triumphant and us all to be eager to live every day as if it is our last. In Malta as in many other countries, there is the custom that we visit the departed in cemeteries, light candles and put flowers on the graves.
Prayer
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
