‘Morna l-Baħar’

On 23rd May 2025, Year 5 students at MRC College, St Paul’s Bay Primary School took part in Morna l-Baħar, a special event aimed at educating them about the beauty of marine life and the threats it faces. The day was brought to life through a variety of engaging workshops animated by Profs Alan Deidun from the University of Malta, Sharklab, Nature Trust, Ekoskola, and Prayer Spaces.

Alongside the scientific and environmental activities, the Prayer Space invited students to slow down and reflect on how to care for God’s world. Through activities such as Happy World – Sad World 😊😢, Pray for the World 🌎, Appreciating Nature 🌳, Relaxing Water💧, Saving Life 🕊️, Cardboard Home 🏠, Refugee Backpack 🎒, and God’s Desire for the World, students prayed for the homeless, for the protection of the environment, for saving sea life from plastic, and for a peaceful world as God wishes it to be. Many shared how the experience made them feel closer to nature, more determined to recycle, and more aware of God’s love for creation and the people in the world.

What children prayed:

“God bless poor people with food, water and a home and love. Once there was a homeless man and I gave him money, food and prayed for him. Please make them have a healthy long life”

“Dear God, Help my mum: I hope my mum will get a better job. Love you, mum.”

“Thank you God for giving the earth colour. Thank you for the beautiful flowers, the sea and the fresh air.”

“I wish someone and everyone to be my friend.”

“Please help people who have no home to find a safe place.”

“Dear God, I pray for war to stop, no more killing each other.”

“I wish for happiness, love, respect, kindness and care for one another.”

“I felt sad for people who had to leave their homes, but happy that God was with them .”

Both children and educators said that this Prayer Space helped them pause from their busy day, become more aware of the beauty and fragility of creation, and bring their concerns to God in prayer.

👏 Heartfelt thanks to the Senior Leadership Team for giving us, the SDS team, the opportunity to offer this special moment to reflect, learn, and pray together for our beautiful world.
