Catechists

Prayer Spaces will be setup for catechists

Maltese

The SDS team will set up and animate prayer spaces for catechists at the Capuchin Centre in Kalkara. The session included the prayer space experience and its processing. Then, there was an introductory session about prayer spaces followed by Ms Silvana Cardona and Ms Anne Marie Gatt. The National Literacy Agency supported this Prayer Space session.

The prayer activities set up included:

Jumping for Joy

Easter brings joy so in this prayer space one thinks of someone or something that brings joy and makes you happy.

Lent: Palm Hands

Inspired from the Palm Sunday procession in this prayer space one is invited to adore and honour God for the qualities that make him trustworthy.

Broken Heart – Plaster

One is invited to think of those with a broken heart, reflect on what one can do to help, and asked to pray for them.

Lent: The Runners Shoes

This prayer space encourages one to reflect upon those moments one failed to give a helping hand when it was necessary.

Lent: Love Letter

Reflecting on how St John describes the immense love God has for us, in this prayer space one is given time to write a love letter to God who is showering us with love.

Big Questions

Some of them are ‘head’ questions, things we find difficult to grasp and understand. But most of them are ‘heart’ questions, to do with our experience of pain and suffering, doubt and disappointment, etc.

The Bible is full of question-prayers. All of the significant characters in the Bible ask question-prayers of God – Abraham does, David does, even Jesus does – and many of the questions remain unanswered, at least in the way that the ask-er hoped they would be answered.

This prayer activity works best when a team member is nearby to encourage the pupils to ask honest questions. Sometimes, students might ask the team member what they think about a particular question. When this happens, the team member needs to answer honestly, even if their answer is “I really don’t know”. The purpose of this prayer activity is to reinforce the idea that questions are OK. In fact, asking honest questions is essential to authentic faith.

Lent: Mirror

Inspired by the Veronica’s veil, this prayer activity encourages one to identify the positive aspects of oneself as one looks at ones own self-image created on the image of God in a mirror.

Lent: Pipe Cleaner People

Inspired by Simon of Cyrene, who was special because he helped Jesus carrying the cross, one reflects and prays for a special person in ones life while creating ‘a pipe cleaner model’.

Lent: Empty Plate

This prayer space provides one with the opportunity to reflect on greed, whilst relating the topic to Judas Iscariot it invites the particiants to pray for justice and for wisdom and courage in fighting economic-greed.

Peace Garden

This prayer space encourages one to reflect on peace, whether when one is at peace, where is peace needed or how is peace felt.

Be Still: Prayer Word

During this time one is inivted to be still and meditate on ma-ra-na-ta.

Appreciating Nature

During this prayer space, one shows gratitude to God for what nature offers.
