Welcome

The Head, SLT, or educator who is administering the assembly welcomes the students by saying good morning. One can start the assembly with the sign of the cross or a minute in silence.

Reflection

On the 1st of January, the Catholic Church celebrates the ‘Day of Peace’. Let us unite together and sing the Hymn of the Maltese children.

Some of the children may wave small pieces of red and white cloth. During the refrain children march and clap.

Excercise

During this month, children can make white kites as a symbol of peace.

(Attached one may find a kite template)

Reflection

On the 1st of January, the church celebrates the ‘Day of Peace’. Let us listen to the poem: “Peace is Every Step” by Thich Nhat Nanh.

Poem

Peace is every step

The shining red sun in my heart.

Each flower smiles with me

How green, how fresh all that grows.

How cool the wind blows.

Peace is every step.

It turns the endless path to joy.

(During this month the HOS or educators can make visible this poem for the students to read it frequently – thehouseofyoga.com)

Introduction

Slide 2

Have you ever been on an aeroplane? The safety instructions warn each passenger that first, you must wear your oxygen mask before you can help other passengers. This is an excellent example of true love: we love others as we love ourselves.

Reflection

Slide 3

Taking care of yourself does not mean that you are selfish or self-centred. It means that you take care of your physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual wellbeing so that you will be able to build loving, caring and peaceful relationships with others.

This means that you accept yourself the way you are. You appreciate your good qualities, strengths and talents. This will enable you to appreciate the good qualities of others without being jealous or envious of other people’s success.

It is also important to accept your limitations and faults without feeling guilty or being harsh with yourself so that you will be patient, forgiving and understanding with others.

When you have difficult experiences in life, you can become angry or lose hope. It is healthy to share your life experiences with people can help you, such as teachers, counsellors and religious counsellors. These people support you in the face of hardships and help you to build inner strength. When you find someone who helps, understands and encourages you in life, you will also become compassionate and understanding of others.

Slide 7

Dear God,

Thank you for making me a beautiful human being. Help me to accept myself as I am and to take care of my physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual wellbeing so that I can do the same with others. Amen.
