A session for educators

Maltese

A session was offered to National Literacy Agency staff members as a gentle pastoral space facilitated by the SDS team in collaboration with the Agency. The experience provided participants a reflective and experiential journey into spiritual wellbeing, inviting them to slow down and reconnect with themselves, others, and God.

It opened with a powerful question: “Who would need CPR?” Initial responses naturally pointed to medical emergencies, such as someone whose heart has stopped beating, who is unresponsive and not breathing. This understanding was then gently reframed through a short video clip, inviting participants to consider the question on a personal and spiritual level. The message was clear: at different moments in life, each one of us may need a kind of spiritual CPR– to connect, pause and reflect.

A key element of the session was the experience of Prayer Spaces, supported by journalling, breathing exercises, and gentle focusing activities that encouraged awareness of God’s presence. These spaces invited participants to engage with their whole person—mind, body, emotions, and spirit.

Feedback highlighted the impact of these prayer activities:

  • “The prayer spaces were simple yet deeply meaningful.”
  • “They gave me permission to slow down and listen to what was going on inside me.”

Small-group discussions provided further opportunities for sharing, allowing participants to voice insights and listen to one another’s experiences. Many appreciated the balance between personal reflection and communal dialogue, describing the session as “safe, grounding, and nourishing.”

Towards the end of the session, participants were invited to identify one small change they could make in their own lives to enhance wellbeing. This practical invitation was seen as particularly valuable, with one participant commenting, “It wasn’t just reflective, it challenged me to act.”

The session concluded with a strong sense of renewed purpose and hope. As one participant summarised, “This wasn’t just a session we attended; it was something we experienced, and it stayed with us.”

In many ways, the day affirmed a simple truth: spiritual well-being matters, and through connection, pause, and reflection, we allow ourselves and others to breathe again.
