A session for educators

Maltese

Recently, the SDS team delivered a motivational session on spiritual well-being to the committed educators at St. Margaret College, Primary A, Żabbar. This world of isolation offered a new experience for the teachers by creating a space to reconnect with God, themselves and the people around them. With some fun activities, teachers could take a break from their day-to-day work, share about themselves and forge closer relationships.

The session included multiple elements to facilitate reflection, serenity and self-revelation. Teachers took time for prayer spaces to have moments of silence and reflection. A space to process experiences, where they were invited to ponder the purpose and the spiritual while schooling busied other minds.

The significance of this event emerged as feedback came in. Someone wrote, “It was a great way of providing for one to be calm and peaceful. Many found the perspective of prioritizing themselves over students to be new and insightful. Another added, “The Cope session fit exactly right because, at least in one case, we were talking about us rather than our students/work. One teacher responded to some of the benefits of stillness with, “The Cope session has been beneficial- thankful for it. He fell silent and it brought me back to the realization that silence is sometimes the only thing I need to hear — from myself and all else around me.

Take Care of Yourself (So You Can Take Care of Them)Overall, the session resonated on a profound level, providing educators with an opportunity for an upbeat, recharging experience that encouraged us to reflect on our mental health and well-being. Through personal reflection, the SDS team provided space for educators to connect to their spiritual selves and open up the possibility of peace, gratitude, and a sense of purpose. It made the educators feel more connected to each other and emphasized the need for spiritual well-being in prolonging their lives as educators.
