Day 3
BIBLE VERSE
“I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.” (Lk 10:21)
REFLECTION
Very few know the meaning of humility until it is explained that it is the contrary of pride, and then they get even more confused. According to Jesus, pride inflates us and hides us from God, while the humility of ‘little children’ exposes us to his love. How is this the case? Christmas teaches us! Think about it: God couldn’t make Himself ‘bigger’, and thus He chose to make Himself ‘smaller’ for our salvation, that is, to enable contact with Him insofar that we become accustomed to our ‘smallness’ and aspire only for the Best: Jesus in our hearts!
ACTIVITY
Go in front of your crib, a nativity scene, or a manger. Allow yourself to quiet down even while you close your eyes and open your hands as a sign that you are receiving from God. Now, open your eyes to see Baby Jesus and welcome Him as He is: small, fragile and humble. For a few minutes, imagine that you have the responsibility to take care of Baby Jesus, who is dependent on you. How does it feel? Lastly, consider that the more you hold on to Jesus, the more He is holding you, showing you the way of humility: a life totally dependent on God.
PRAYER
Dear Jesus, Humble King, show me and teach me humily this Christmas as I thank you for your great love towards me and all humanity. Help me to carry you always in my heart and to bear witness to your truth and love.
