Introduction

Living as brothers and sisters creates our ability to do nice things for each other.

Reflection

Accepting each other as brothers and sisters makes life more tranquil and amusing. We are all special and unique, and it is essential that we share what makes us unique such as our talents to create a very nice harmony among us.

Activity

Love Heart

(Equipment – different objects in classroom, interactive board, whiteboard, or plain paper)

Form a big heart with any kind of objects you find in class ex. pebbles, Lego blocks, wooden blocks, bits of paper, pens, or pencils, and masking tape. If this is not possible draw one on the whiteboard on the interactive board.

Explain to the children how a heart is often used as a representation of love because love supplies energy to people and blood to the body. This blood (love) allows us to live happily.

Ask the children to mention people whom they love and people who love them. One can write them on a piece of paper and then place them in the middle of the heart.

Family

Prayer

A visual prayer. Equipment – plastic cups for each child or a bowl for the whole class/group filled with some water, strips of kitchen rolls, and whiteboard markers.

On the kitchen roll strips, the children draw a heart and think of a person who they sometimes find tricky to love. Then, they put the strip in the water and watch the water slowly climb up the strip and into the heart, and the heart is absorbed. Explain to the children that this symbolises how they want God’s love and your love to reach out to everyone.

If time is limited or the number of people is large, the animator can experiment by himself/herself, the children watch, and the class teachers can repeat it in their respective classrooms.

Introduction

What do you understand by the word community?
(The RC or animator writes the word community on a large paper or on the interactive and around it he/she writes the definitions given by the students.)

Reflection

A community is a word for a group of people who have things in common. They might live in the same area, go to the same school, do the same activities or have similar backgrounds.

Activity

Can you think of two different communities that you are part of?

(Students will carry out this exercise individually, and then they will share. They can write or draw about their communities on a piece of plain paper).

Video Clip

The animator tells the students to watch this short video clip entitled:

Types of Communities for Kids – What is a community?

Prayer

Thank you, God, for our different communities. Bless all the communities we adhere to frequently, and help us always be ready to share your love in these communities. Amen.

Introduction

Animator: Good morning, dear Students!

Welcome to today’s reflection on living love through brotherhood and sisterhood. As members of the community, we are called to embrace one another as brothers and sisters in Christ, creating a bond of love and unity. Today, we will explore the power of brotherhood and sisterhood and how it can transform our lives and the world around us.

Video Clip

The animator tells the students to watch this short video clip entitled:

Maher Zain – One Big Family | Awakening Live At The London Apollot Film

Animator: Wasn’t that a captivating video? It reminds us of the incredible potential for love and unity when we embrace one another as brothers and sisters. Now, let’s take a moment to reflect on what we have just seen and discuss how we can live out love through brotherhood and sisterhood.

Reflection

In a world that often emphasizes division and differences, brotherhood and sisterhood offer a powerful counter-narrative. The Bible reminds us of the importance of loving one another as a family. In 1 John 4:20-21, we read:

“If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.”

These verses challenge us to examine the way we treat and love those around us. Our love for God is intimately connected to how we love and relate to our brothers and sisters. When we embrace one another as a family, we create a community rooted in love and unity.

The animator invites the students to think about a time when they experienced the love and support of their brothers and sisters in the community.

How did it impact your faith and sense of belonging?

The animator pauses for students’ participation.

Animator: Brotherhood and sisterhood invite us to see beyond our differences and embrace the inherent dignity of each person. It calls us to celebrate our unique backgrounds and talents, recognizing that we are all part of God’s family.

Activity

The animator asks these questions for students’ participation:

What are some practical ways we can foster a sense of brotherhood and sisterhood within our community?

How can we celebrate and honour the diverse backgrounds and cultures within our community?

Are there any specific saints or individuals from the Catholic tradition or other traditions who inspire you with their example of brotherhood/sisterhood?

How do they influence your understanding of love and unity?

The animator tells the students to take a moment to discuss these questions with one another or write down their thoughts for personal reflection.

The animator pauses for students’ participation.

Prayer

Animator: Let us now gather our thoughts and turn our hearts to God in prayer.

Dear God, we thank You for the gift of brotherhood and sisterhood. Help us to truly see and embrace one another as Your beloved sons and daughters, regardless of our differences. Help us to treat everyone with respect and love.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our Brother and Saviour, we pray. Amen.

Animator: Thank you, everyone, for joining us today in this reflection on living love through brotherhood and sisterhood. As brothers and sisters in Christ, let us embrace one another with love and create a community that shines as a beacon of unity and acceptance.

Have a blessed day!
