SkolaSajf Students

Prayer Spaces will be prepared for the students participating in SkolaSajf

Maltese and English

This August, the SDS team, together with dedicated volunteers, will created and animated prayer spaces for Skolasajf students from various centres at the Chapel of Madonna tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi.A heartfelt thank you to the Foundation for Educational Services for the ongoing collaboration over the past years and for once again inviting us to participate this summer. The National Literacy Agency is also supporting these Prayer Spaces sessions.

The theme of this year is Reach for the Stars. It aims to encourage children to dream big, try new things, and believe in their own abilities. Children have the opportunity to play, collaborate, and explore their abilities so they can shine brightly and reach their personal goals.

Following an introduction in the chapel dedicated to the Annunciation of Our Lady, the children engaged in creative prayer activities inspired by this year’s Skolasajf theme, “Reach for the Stars.”

Night Sky – We looked up at the sky and wondered at the greatness and beauty of God’s creation.

Star Blessings – We remembered the people who are stars of love, kindness and blessing in our lives.

Big Questions – We paused and shared with God the big questions that are in our hearts.

Peace Plane – We wrote our prayers for peace and pray for a more peaceful world.

Pom Pom Prayers – We reflected on our gifts and qualities and how we can use them for the good of others.

Be Still – We paused, breathed, and appreciated the peace and stillness around us.

Fishing for Kindness – We looked for ways to show kindness and care to others.

I Am Known For – We thought about the quality we would like to be known for and how we can use it to help those in need.

Received from You – We remembered something good we have received from someone else that continues to live on in us.

Forgiveness Stones – We allowed God to help us let go of hurt and forgive.

Hopes & Dreams – We shared with God the hopes, dreams and wishes we carry in our hearts.

Surrounded by the beauty of the countryside and stillness by the chapel, the children were given the much-needed opportunity to slow down, be present, and enjoy a peaceful space away from the busyness of everyday life. Through these summer mornings, they paused, reflected and prayed, discovering God’s presence in the beauty of creation.

The children were encouraged to see prayer not simply as words, but as something that can inspire action, kindness and care for others.

Here are some of the children’s prayers:

“I am known for helping old people, especially my nanna. Thank you, Jesus.”

“God, when my friends die, will they still love me?”

“Dear Jesus, for my birthday, I wish to see my father.”

“Jesus, bless my family, my cousins, friends and my teachers.”

“God, please, I want peace in my family.”

As a reminder of their experience, each child received a wristband with the words “Pay It Forward” and a card encouraging them to remember that kindness is not something we keep for ourselves, but something we share and pass on to others.

This event is part of the Prayer Spaces programme.
