Prayer Spaces will be prepared for the students participating in FEE Fest

Maltese and English

The SDS participated in the FEE Fest through our interactive and reflective prayer spaces! The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), a global leader in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), hosted the three-day event, where students and educators came together to explore issues surrounding sustainable living and the environment. 🌿🌎

At the heart of this initiative, our prayer space offered a unique spiritual dimension to the fest. These reflective stations were carefully designed to help participants connect with nature, the world, and one another, fostering environmental awareness alongside a deep sense of gratitude, reflection, and care.

The prayer activities included:

  1. Swinging for Joy 😊– A space where children focused on moments that brought them joy.
“It felt like I was flying and thanking God for joy!” – Year 5 student
  2. Punching Bag 🥊– Participants released their anger and frustration by punching a soft bag while reflecting on inner peace.
“It helped me let out what I was holding inside, and then I felt calm.” – Year 6 student
  3. Saving Life 🐢 – Children reflected on how they could protect life and care for creation, especially animals and endangered species.
“I want to be a vet to help animals because life is precious.” – Year 4 student
  4. Happy Earth–Sad Earth 🌍😢 – This activity invited participants to respond to two images of the Earth: one healthy, one suffering. They wrote or drew how their choices could help make the Earth happier.
“Dear God, sorry for littering the Earth. We need to throw less rubbish and plant more trees.” – Year 5 student
  5. Appreciating Nature 🍃 – A quiet space to reflect on the beauty of creation.
“I picked up a leaf and thought about how amazing God is.” – Year 6 student
  6. Cardboard Home 🏚️ – Children stepped into a cardboard shelter and reflected on the realities of homelessness and their role in building a kinder society.
“It made me feel sad but also thankful. I want to help people without a home.” – Year 4 student
  7. Pray for the World 🕯️ – A globe and tea-light-operated candles helped children focus on places and people in need of prayer around the world.🌏
“I prayed for peace in countries where there’s war.” – Year 5 student
  8. God’s Desire 🙏– This station encouraged participants to listen to God’s voice in silence and reflect on his desire for the World.
“I felt peaceful and I think God wants us to take care of each other.” – Year 6 student

These prayer spaces brought a meaningful spiritual layer to the FEE Fest at St Nicholas College, Dun Manuel Attard, Wardija, allowing students from various schools and their educators to engage with sustainability not only as a responsibility but as a sacred calling. The feedback from students showed that the experience left a deep impact on their hearts and minds, prompting both prayerful reflection and concrete commitments to care for the environment and for others.

This event is part of the Prayer Spaces programme.
