Day 22 - Fourth Sunday of Advent
BIBLE VERSE
“The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.” Luke 1:35
REFLECTION
It’s almost Christmas! Don’t worry if you’re yet to get into the Christmas Spirit! ‘It’ must first get onto and into you for the true Christmas Spirit is the Holy Spirit! In today’s Gospel Mary, pregnant with baby Jesus visits her relative Elizabeth, also pregnant with John. Now, “when Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.” We see that no amount of excitement can do it for – as C.S. Lewis would say – only an encounter with Christ can change a ‘winter’ into ‘Christmas’.
ACTIVITY
Note that it was the Greeting that ‘produced’ the leap. We encounter Jesus best in His Word. Now we are three days away from Christmas: Every evening around 6pm go to the Gospel of Luke chapter 1, verses 46 to 55 and before reading it prayerfully, ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit.
PRAYER
Dear Lord, through the intercession of Our Lady, fill me with the Spirit of Jesus this Christmas and empower me to proclaim the Good News of His birth amongst us everywhere that I go.
Hail, Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
