Welcome

The head, SLT or educator who is administering the assembly welcomes the students by saying good morning. One can start the assembly with the sign of the cross or a minute in silence.

Introduction

Being old is not easy; you feel tired, and some might also feel very lonely, so we need to make sure that we take care of the elderly around us. Let us sing this song together about a jolly, old man who is great fun to be with:

Reflective Thought

This elderly man was great fun to be with. The elderly have many enjoyable stories to relate to us, and we must listen to them. As our brothers and sisters, older people have a lot to teach us, and we need to give them a place in our lives.

Prayer

Loving God, help all the elderly, especially those who feel lonely. Amen

Seth found a role model in 82-year-old George. George has been a father figure to Seth and had many precious stories and lessons to offer, while Seth brought great joy to George. It is important that we do not underestimate the elderly, our own grandparents or the elderly whom we meet because they can teach us a lot through their experiences and stories, and we can give them a lot of joy. Try to find the time to listen to them and keep them company.

Prayer

Loving God, help us to open our ears to listen to the elderly, our hearts to offer our joy to them and open our minds so we never forget their importance in our communities. Amen.

Introduction

As young people, we tend to look at the elderly in our communities as outdated or invalid. We must not forget they have been young once, and they have many stories to share, based on their invaluable experience. Let’s listen to the advice of the elderly to adolescents and youths:

Reflective Thought

The young generation is the backbone, the present and the future of the world. We should not be a generation that abandons the elderly of our community, but instead, we should sit with them, listen to them, see what lessons, stories and knowledge they can share with us to help us build a better future. As our brothers and sisters, we need to appreciate the dignity and worth of the elderly and help them feel that they are still valid to our society.

Prayer

Dear God, help us to become more open to the elderly in our society. God, help the elderly feel appreciated and useful in the community and help us to build a better future than our present. Amen
