Welcome

The head, SLT or educator who is administering the assembly welcomes the students by saying good morning. One can start the assembly with the sign of the cross or a minute in silence.

Introduction

How do we feel today? It is important that we express how we feel and talk about it so that we are not only healthy in our bodies but also in our minds. Let’s sing this song together:

Watch

Reflective Thought

In the song we saw many different feelings and so from today on, speak about them and be nice to also ask your friends how they are feeling.

Prayer

Dear God, please help us to express our feelings honestly and help us to take care of the feelings of those around us. Amen

Introduction

While exercising and eating healthy helps our body to stay healthy, talking and expressing our feelings helps our minds to stay healthy because mental health is as important as physical health. Let us have a look at what these kids had to say about that:

Watch

Reflective Thought

When a person breaks their hand or leg, we help them because we can see them hurt, but we cannot see mental health, and that is why it is important that we listen. When we create an environment in our class that is safe and open for one to talk, we can help those who are mentally unhealthy and need help. It is important that we always pass any concerns to our teachers who can speak to qualified people who can help better.

Prayer

Dear God, help us to create a safe environment in our class, an environment that is open for one to talk and others to listen and seek help where needed. Amen

Introduction

As you are aware mental health is a serious issue and many might have or are battling with it or know someone who did or do. We must keep in mind that mental health is more common than we think, and we should not be ashamed to talk about it. This clip gives some interesting facts about mental health and would help us to think and understand better mental health:

Watch

Reflective Thought

As we have seen in the clip, 1 in 5 teens suffers from mental health and anyone can suffer from it. It is important that in our classes and schools we create an environment where everyone can speak up without shame and everyone should be open to listening without judgement but ready to help, by calling out teachers, who can suggest qualified professionals. You are the present and the future of the world, and so it is your responsibility to normalise talking publicly about mental health. Although the number at the end of the video is based in the USA we have www.kellimni.com and 179 that might help when in times of crisis.

Prayer

Dear God, give us the courage to be a generation of change and normalise open talk and acceptance about mental health. God, help those who are going through mental health issues to find courage to talk and understand they are not alone. Amen
