Introduction

This year during some of the assemblies we will be talking about respect. Here are some friends who are going to tell us something about respect. Ash Wednesday is the start of lent. Lent is the time that prepares us for Easter. Today we remember that everyone is equal. Let us sing this song together:

Introduction

Today, Ash Wednesday is the start of the 40 days of lent where we prepare ourselves for Easter. We start lent by being marked with ash on our heads. The ash is a sign that we are no better than anyone and should be kind to everyone. Let us watch this clip.

What happened in this clip?

Reflective Thought

In the clip we saw different people helping each other. Remember the ash tells us that we are no better than those around us and so we should do our very best to help everyone, no matter what they do.

Prayer

Dear God, we pray for a blessed lent. Help us to respect others, this lent and always. Help us remember that we are all equal. Amen.

Introduction

Ash Wednesday is the start of Lent. Although we tend to make simple sacrifices during these 40 days, they are not meant as suffering but to help us appreciate the gift of Easter more. On Ash Wednesday, we are marked with ashes, reminding us to stay humble. Let us watch this clip.

What happened in this clip?

Reflective Thought

The ashes remind us that we came from nothing and will become nothing – not to scare us but to help us stay grounded, humble, and respect each other’s dignity. In the clip one person helped another, and one respected another. No one was more or less, all people, all ashes, all the same.

Prayer

Dear God, we pray for a blessed lent. May it be a time of eye-opening experiences that draw us closer to you. Amen.
