St Edward’s College, Cospicua

Students

The Spiritual Exercises with the boys of St Edward’s College was an uplifting experience. The students were engaged and eager to participate, showing a genuine interest in deepening their understanding of God’s love and our Lenten journey towards Easter.

The Lenten exercises with the Junior School started with reflecting on how God has created us in His image and likeness. The boys listened attentively as they heard about how humanity started to forget about God, leading to struggles and broken relationships. The powerful image of a farmer removing weeds to ensure a good harvest helped discuss the importance of identifying and eliminating any bad habits that distance us from God and others. The boys actively shared their thoughts on how selfishness, impatience, or dishonesty can harm friendships and family bonds. They explored practical ways to replace these habits with love, kindness, and forgiveness.

The session with the Middle School focused on Hope. Inspired by Jeremiah’s “I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper and not harm, to give you hope and a future,” it sought to discover ways to be hopeful and joyful in challenging times. It was encouraging to have witnessed the genuine interest of the boys in exploring more on the value of prayer, self-discipline, and meaningful relationships for their journey towards an everlasting relationship with God. With the help of humorous video clips and an engaging online game, the complex subjects of longing, uncertainty, and toxic relationships hit home, and students were ready to voice their opinions and discuss their experiences. The session ended with a moment of guided reflection and prayer.

It was heartwarming and consoling to see the young Edwardians enthusiastic about discovering how to grow closer to the God who longs to share their joys and struggles.
