Introduction

This is a very special week for those who are Christians. This week is called the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. In it, we pray for us Christians to unite and see what we can agree on, not on what we disagree on. As we are going to see in this video although, from the outside, we look different inside we are all Children of God. God loves us all and sent his son Jesus to save us all.

As we heard during this video done for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity of the year 2015, this Week is an annual event. For both Christian believers and Non-Christian believers, taking time to join in praying for Unity among Christians is a way of showing respect. The theme chosen for this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is a quote from Jesus – Abide in my love and you shall bear much fruit (John 15:5-9). Christian Union means that we acknowledge that all of us are sharers in the love of the same savior Jesus Christ. It means being like brothers and sisters. It means focusing on our core – Jesus even though from the outside we are different. Let’s watch this short clip before we say our prayer for today:

Prayer is a conversation between Us and God. In a conversation sometimes we talk but sometimes we listen and this morning we are going to listen to what God wants us to know and reflect about.
The following are 8 quotes by Jesus proposed for this journey of prayer.

Called by God: “You did not choose me, but I chose you.” (Jn 15:16a)

Maturing internally: “Abide in me as I abide in you.” (Jn 15:4a)

Forming one body: “Love one another as I have loved you.” (Jn 15:12b)

Praying together: “I do not call you servants any longer … but I have called you friends.” (Jn 15:15)

Letting oneself be transformed by the Word: “You have already been pruned by the word…” (Jn 15:3)

Welcoming others: “go and bear fruit, fruit that will last.” (Jn 15:16b)

Growing in unity: “I am the vine; you are the branches.” (Jn 15:5a)

Reconciling with all of creation: “So that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.” (Jn 15:11)

Dear God, of unity and peace, we pray that all Christians will unite so that with your grace they may carry to the world the message of your love wherever they will go and in whatever they will say and do. Amen.
